On 8 July, The NSMC officially launched as a social enterprise, a community interest company. As a CIC the Centre is a non-profit social enterprise established to serve a community interest.
The NSMC was launched in 2006 by the Department of Health (DH) to build capacity and skills in social marketing across the NHS. The NSMC has ambitious plans as a social enterprise and to continue to work with organisations and individuals to improve the effectiveness of their social marketing programmes.
They have four main areas of focus over the next eighteen months.
- To continue to build capacity and skills in social marketing across a range of topics and countries. This includes the development of accredited training courses, organisational redesign support, tailored training courses and workshops and offering ‘training to delivery’ packages to support organisations as they develop their social marketing abilities. www.thensmc.com/training
- To continue to provide policy advice and support to government departments on developing and evaluating behaviour change policies more effectively
- To offer an independent evaluation and cost evaluation service for behaviour change and social marketing programmes
