Report: The long-term sustainability of the NHS and adult social care

The House of Lords Select Committee’s report on the Long-term Sustainability of the NHS and adult Social Care, recognises issues and concerns that people in the NHS and care services have been talking about for many years.

The committee argues that a new political consensus on the future of the health and care system is needed and that this should emerge as a result of government-initiated cross-party talks. It also recommends that budgetary responsibility should be held at a national level by the Department of Health and that the recommendations of the Dilnot Commission should be implemented. The report also raises concerns on public health budget cuts and the lack of long-term workforce planning within the system.
