The Regional Innovation Fund (RIF) is an annual awards scheme which provides resources to support and promote the adoption and spread of innovation across the NHS.
A total of £2.5m was made available for the 2014/15 fund to organisations applying to the RIF, and 46 applications were successful. These include:
- University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust: The breakfast at Glenfield innovation project – using social media to educate and entertain healthcare professionals and patients across the UK.
- NHS England South West Region: Can pressure mapping facilitate patients and carers in their decision making with regards to pressure ulcer prevention in the community setting
- NHS England Northern Senate: The participation and health improvement of children and young people with Type1 diabetes using simple Telehealth
- East London NHS Foundation Trust: Behaviour change through film
The fund was open to all NHS organisations, including NHS England staff, Academic Health Sciences Networks (AHSNs) and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs). Applications were clinician-led and organisations were able to apply for up to £50,000 individually, or up to £250,000 as a partnership.
