Primary care is one of the most important building blocks of successful health systems. It is also one of the most strained. The primary care paradox – New designs and models, a new report from KPMG International in partnership with the Nuffield Trust captures the results of discussions held with primary care experts from across Europe.
Examining the impacts of rising demand and expectations across all of healthcare, the report underscores the need for evolution in primary care models as well as the sector’s potential to drive better care quality and coordination.
As part of 6 key conclusions the report identifies primary care of the future needs to be person-centred, where patients and their carers are recognised as core participants in decision-making about care and treatment.
