Julia Bell, Head of Publishing at Breast Cancer Care, has shared the history of the organisation and its current work, along with her experiences of being a PIF member, as our member of the month for March 2016.
Julia explains how the roots of the charity can be traced back to the experiences of one woman, Betty Westgate, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in the 1960s. She was horrified by the lack of information and support for women in her situation. This led her to set up the Mastectomy Association in 1973, from which Breast Cancer Care directly descended.
For Julia, the networking and educational opportunities PIF membership provides, are key benefits of being a members, and she is looking forward to sharing the work of Breast Cancer Care as part of the poster exhibition at our annual conference in May.
