- Role: Health writer for major pregnancy/childcare publication
- Job type: Freelance contract
- Location: UK-wide
- Employer: NHS Health Scotland
- Closing date: Friday 13 October 2017 at 4:00pm
NHS Health Scotland are looking to recruit a writer to produce the text for a new edition of a high profile pregnancy and childcare title due for publication in December 2018. We are particularly interested in hearing from health writers with experience of authoring larger format books and from those with an in-depth knowledge of pregnancy and early years topics.
The writer will not need to research content from scratch but will be working from outline text supplied in a consistent format by professional subject experts from over 40 different topic areas. The writer’s role will be primarily to bring uniformity of expression to the text, in a tone of voice that makes its key messages fully accessible to its target audience. We will fully brief the selected writer not only about the specific requirements of the job itself but about its wider context, background and sensitivities.
The completed text is expected to be 50,000-60,000 words in length, produced through two draft stages and incorporating feedback and amends from the medical professionals who authored the outline texts, the Editorial Board overseeing the project and by parents’ groups who will be pretesting material; all such amends will be channeled through our in-house editor.
The writer may also be asked to attend meetings with Health Scotland staff which they can do either in person at our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices or virtually by phone/video conferencing.
Writers interested in being considered for this role will be required to register on the Scottish Government’s procurement portal (if not already registered) as all briefings and applications will be managed through this route.
