As many of you will know already, Get Online Week is coming back! Taking place between Monday 15 and Sunday 21 of October, the 2018 campaign will once again ask people to Try 1 Thing. The Good Things Foundation want people to try doing just one new thing online, as a next step to getting more out of the internet.
As in previous years, they’re looking for learners from the Online Centres Network to be the stars of thecampaign, featuring in posters and on the website. They want to highlight the changes to people’s lives getting online can bring – encouraging others to give it a go – by telling the stories (and taking the photos) of a handful of your learners. They’ve already got a few of the stars lined up but they’d like your help in finding the last few.
They’re interested in finding stories of people who have used digital skills to:
- Progress on to accredited learning (this could be college, university or a vocational course)
- Look after their health (this could be finding out about a condition, finding advice to manage their health or finding support from people in their shoes)
- Feel less isolated or lonely (this could be reconnecting with old friends online, finding a partner, or keeping in touch with far away family)
If you have a learner who you think fits the bill, please get in touch with your Network Specialist by email with their full name, age and why you think they should feature in this year’s Get Online Week. Don’t forget to include a photograph of the learner too. Make sure you don’t miss out on Get Online Week announcements by following the campaign on Twitter and subscribing to the campaign newsletter.
