    An introduction to the NHS

    This course will give you an insight into the NHS through an understanding of its history, its structure and the challenges it is facing. It is designed for those who are new to the NHS or need to understand the recent changes and the organisations it created. Since its launch in 1948, the NHS has grown to become the world’s largest publicly funded health service. It provides genuine comprehensive health care that is free at the point of delivery. It is a hugely complex organisation with many aspects to it.

    The NHS has constantly changed since it was created in 1948. It is a complex organisation with complex issues. The most recent changes are arguably the greatest since its creation. This course explains in simple language the history of the NHS, the present structure and the challenges it is facing.

    Introduction to the NHS enables you to:

    • Understand the role and complexity of the NHS
    • Develop an understanding of the history
    • Consider the recent changes and their impact
    •  Identify the challenges the NHS faces

    The course is designed to appeal to anyone that has involvement in the NHS and wants an overview of its role function, history and the recent changes. This can be new members of staff, lay members or individual from other sectors.
