With degrees in public health and information management Gary started his career in consumer health information in 1995 as Librarian at the charity Scope. He spent 13 years at Scope in a variety of roles in the information, research, public policy and programme development departments. He then joined the NHS, managing a patient information service, and then a Macmillan Cancer Information Centre.
In 2013 he joined the Information and Support Department at Macmillan Cancer Support as an Improvement Adviser, working with their cancer information and support services across the UK.
He is a Trustee on the Board of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) and former chair of its Health Libraries Group.
He is Chair of the Health and Social Care Strategy Group.
