This theme covers techniques for searching for information in all formats and recommended sources of good quality health information.
There is a vast amount of information on health available to patients and the public. Information providers in the health and social care sectors are tasked with sourcing good quality information and making it as accessible as possible. The Government Strategy (Department of Health 2004), details the need for everyone to have access to the high quality information they need to make choices about their healthcare.
The Sourcing Health Information theme covers techniques for searching for information in all formats (electronic, paper, audio, video etc.) and recommended sources of good quality health information. The term ‘health information,’ in this instance, includes information on health and wellbeing for the public as well as information for patients on medical conditions.
