Education and training
Introduction
In recent years the importance of providing effective and high quality patient information has become more and more apparent and with it there has been a rise in the number of people working in health information roles. To date there are a number of courses which offer a recognised qualification in communication, library and information studies or health informatics, but none cover the precise knowledge and skill mix required by people in patient information services roles.
A qualification for health information professionals working with patient information would serve a number of purposes. It would:
- Show potential employers, colleagues and the public that an individual has a certain level of expertise
- Add value and weight to the roles for which the qualification is relevant
- Help to standardise approaches to health information provision and provide a nationwide standard of quality
This theme aims to:
- Explore the possibilities of developing such a qualification
- Highlight existing training and education products which may be of value to health information professionals
We currently don't have a theme leader for Education and Training. If you are interested in this role, or would like to contribute something to this area please contact secretary@pifonline.org.uk
