Supporting patients to make informed choices in primary care: what works?
18 December 2009
News > Producing and disseminating health information
The University of Birmingham Health Services Management Centre, in association with NHS West Midlands, produced a comprehensive report earlier this year examining the provision of information and support to enable patient choice in primary care.
NHS West Midlands established Investing for Health Project 6 to develop the systematic provision of
information on the quality of primary care services because it is recognised that health and health services were difficult for the public to navigate. Although this series of reports were produced to guide the development of Investing for Health - Project 6, they have a much wider application for all those who work in a health and social care setting and want to improve how they provide information to the public.
The six reports and summary were commissioned from the Health Services Management Centre at the University of Birmingham. They examine evidence and good practice relating to the content, format and delivery of information for patients and the public. Furthermore, they give practical information, advice and guidance in a concise and easy to follow format.
