Cost-benefit tool
Work has begun on an online tool for calculating the value for money of behaviour change interventions. The tool will be available for free on our website.
Currently, there is no consensus on how the value for money of behaviour change and social marketing projects should be calculated. The National Social Marketing Centre (NSMC) is working with NICE and leading academics and practitioners in the area, to agree on the most appropriate methodology.
Work will initially focus on health; however, the tool will be applicable to other disciplines. It will be launched in March 2011, following consultation and pilot phases.

The evidence for social marketing
The National Social Marketing Centre is commissioning a review into the effectiveness of of social marketing to affect behaviour change. The report, which will be the first of its kind since 'It's Our health' in 2006, will systematically search the UK evidence base and synthesise the findings. As well as reviewing the published evidence, the NSMC will be contacting practitioners and agencies working within social marketing for their data on its effectiveness.
The review will take place over the next two months with a report being launched in later Autumn. If you would like to take part and send details of your evidence, email info@nsmc.org.uk
