World Social Marketing Conference Update
Over 750 delegates attended the First World Social Marketing Conference in Brighton on 29/30 September. The Conference was opened by Philip Kotler who spoke about the use of social marketing to address poverty and featured presentations from a number of leading social marketers from across the world.
All of the keynote presentations, including Alan Milburn’s opening presentation on Tuesday morning, can be found on the conference website along with the breakout session presentations and conference abstracts at http://tcp-events.co.uk/wsmc/keynotes.html.
Health Literacy research programme
Along with the Department of Health, the National Social Marketing Centre is developing a new research programme on Health Literacy.
Details of this are now available on the website at www.nsms.org.uk/public/default.aspx?PageID=41 where you can also download a copy of their recently produced health literacy review paper.
Stronger together – weaker apart
The National Social Marketing Centre has just made available a new discussion paper, Stronger together – weaker apart, which aims to identify the common ground – and differences - between specialised health promotion and social marketing for health, in England. It suggests an approach to integration between the two spheres which would improve practice, make more effective use of resources and improve the impact of interventions to improve health and reduce inequalities.
