Effectively Engaging People (interviews from the World Social Marketing Conference)

The NSM Centre has just published a small resource inspired by the speakers at our recent World Social Marketing Conference.

Effectively Engaging People is a collection of short interviews with some of the leading thinkers and most effective practitioners of social marketing from around the world. It gives definitions, advice on how to put together interventions and thoughts on the future direction of social marketing.

The booklet can be downloaded here as a pdf file.

Presentations from the World Conference are still available online at http://tcp-events.co.uk/wsmc/.

Equality Report

The NSMC, in collaboration with partners from the Department of Epidemiology at University College London, recently launched a new summary report; Some are more equal than others... The report provides selected top line findings from its current research programme exploring people’s attitudes to health inequalities and the social determinants of health.

Key findings include:

  • The better-off are happier, more optimistic and enjoy better health
  • We want society to be fair, but the better-off know it is not
  • We are aware of our own position in the social hierarchy relative to others

The results are based on a quantitative survey conducted in August 2008. More in-depth reports will follow in 2009, which include:

  • A thorough interrogation of the quantitative survey
  • A cluster analysis of the findings – looking to identify factors that differentiate between groups in the population
  • Findings from qualitative deliberative workshops ran in London and the North-West of England
