Online module: Communicating Risk

This is a self-contained postgraduate module which you can study for continuing professional development or as a taster to try out online learning and our MA Health Communication Design.

If you complete the module successfully, you will get 20 M level credits which you can if you wish use towards an award in Health Communication Design:

  • Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits)
  • Postgraduate diploma (120 credits)
  • MA (180 credits)

Module outcomes
On successful completion of this module you should be able to:
1.    Critically analyse the factors influencing risk perception and the decision-making processes in health risk communication.
2.    Effectively utilise methods of assessing and evaluating health risk communication.
3.    Evaluate health communication campaigns using a model of best practice in risk communication.

Online learning at Coventry University
You will need the use of a computer with broadband internet access, but you will not need any other special hardware or software. Coventry University is a national leader in e-learning and its online learning environment, CUOnline, makes use of a variety of highly interactive audio-visual learning methods which make studying online both engaging and challenging. You will be given both telephone and online technical support, but all our learning tools are easy to use and require no specialist knowledge.

What and when
This module, M22MC Communicating Risk in the Health context, runs throughout the summer term of 2010. It is taught through a range of online activities and readings, together with live online sessions on Tuesday evenings at 18.30, and an optional campus day.

There is an online Induction week beginning 12 April 2010 to familiarise you with the software and our online library provision. There is a live Induction session at 20.00 on Wednesday 14 April (note the different time/day for the induction session), and the first live session of the module is on Tuesday 20 April at 18.30.
