Online chlamydia tests to reach more young people
A free online chlamydia screening service has been set up to better target young people. The service has been developed by test provider Preventx and is being supported by sexual health charity Brook. Research carried out by Preventx on social networking site Facebook ahead of the initiative found that seven out of ten young people preferred the convenience of an online test. The government is currently funding a free national chlamydia screening programme, but this mainly directs young people to clinics or GP surgeries.
Brook says that young people also prefer ordering a test online as it avoids visiting a chemist or sexual health clinic, which some find embarrassing.Young people can order a free test by visiting the website. Those ordering can also choose how they would like to receive their test results, by either SMS, email or via a secure online tracking website.
