The Quality Institute for Self Management Education and Training (QISMET) have published their universal standard QIS2012 - The Standard for Health Management Programmes and Interventions It is a practical tool to enable providers of self management education and training services to benchmark themselves and be certificated against the QISMET standards,demonstrating they are providing a high quality service and seeking continual improvement. The quality standard covers all types of self management support, health management and behaviour change interventions.

BMA Patient Information Awards 2012 closing date for entries 29 February

You can now submit entries for the BMA Patient Information Awards 2012. The Awards aim to encourage the production and dissemination of accessible, well-designed and clinically balanced patient information. The BMA accepts entries in the form of leaflets, websites and other digital and online resources. All entries will be considered for the overall BMA Patient Information Resource of the Year Award, regardless of their format but the BMA now have new special award categories developed with PiF members - information that aids decision making, self care, long term condition management and an innovation award. The deadline for entries is 29 February 2012.

2012 BMJ Group Improving Health Awards now open for entries

The BMJ Group have launched the 2012 BMJ Group Improving Health Awards. The Awards are run by doctors to recognise the hard work of fellow doctors who are making a difference to the lives of their patients. One of the categories for 2012 is Healthcare Communication Campaign, which recognises a campaign or a communication to educate patients on health. The award is open to UK health campaigners, journalists, broadcasters and healthcare communications agencies, patient groups, commercial organisations, charities, and government agencies. The closing date for entries is 28 February 2012.

Entries now open for the CILIP Libraries Change Lives Award 2012

The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Libraries Change Lives Award is established as one of the leading accolades in the library and information world. The Award highlights and rewards good practice in any innovative library and information projects. They welcome entries from any sector of the library and information world. They could be reading projects, learning projects, or projects that promote information. They must be shown to have affected people's lives for the better, whoever those people might be. The overall winner will receive a trophy and prize money of £4,000. Entries for the 2012 awards close on Monday 13 February 2012.

The Information Standard are looking to appoint a co-chair of the Executive Council

The Information Standard have created a new position of Co-Chair of the Executive Council, their main governance and decision making body. They are looking to recruit someone from one of their existing members, who holds a senior or board position within their organisation to the position. The role is voluntary but expenses will be paid. The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday 13th January 2012.

HON survey on health and medical Internet use

The Health on the Net Foundation's (HON) mission is to guide healthcare consumers and professionals to trustworthy online information, mainly through the HON code for web sites. They have published the results of the 10th HON survey which found that information quality remains the main barrier users encounter while looking for online health information. Both patients and physicians consider the Internet to be helpful in facilitating their communication during the visit, although professionals are more sceptic than the general public.

BMA Patient Information Awards 2011 winners announced

At this year's BMA Patient Information Awards ceremony hosted on Wednesday, 14th September 2011 at BMA House in London, the top prize of Patient Information Resource of the Year, was won by Diabetes Day to Day by Resonant Media. This is a package of workbook and DVD that helps people with diabetes learn simple steps to manage their long term condition. This year, for the first time the judges also awarded a runner up prize, which was awarded to Managing Symptoms at Home: Palliative Care Information for Families by the Children's Cancer & Leukaemia Group. IMPACT Awards deadline approaching

The IMPACT Awards are designed to recognise and reward charities that are doing excellent work to improve people's health. Up to eight winners will receive £25,000. The judges will be looking for evidence of innovation, management, partnership working, achievement, community focus and targeting needs. Deadline for application is 5pm on Friday 23 September 2011.

The Association of Social Care Communicators Awards recognise best practice in social care communication throughout the UK. The awards are a chance for all social care communicators to promote their best work. The awards are open to everybody working in or with social care communication. The judges are looking for entries that are well written, simply presented and meet the entry criteria. The judges will want to see that the objectives of the communication have been met and will look for factual evidence of evaluation. The closing date for entries is 18 July 2011.

Bupa Foundation Awards open for entries

The Bupa Foundation awards this year have new categories, including the patients as partner prize for project that utilise shared decision making and a technology for health outcomes prize. Award winners receive £15,000 towards their work. The closing date for entries is 1 July 2011.
