PiF member Jayne Sinclair, Rotherham Hospital's Health Information Officer, reports this week on the opening and first year of a new health information centre at Rotherham Hospital. The service is in the main entrance of the hospital and provides free health information, advice and guidance for patients, carers and the general public. Information and support services and roles in Scotland

NHS Education for Scotland has developed an Information Support Roles Framework which defines generic information support skills. The framework aims to be the first step for producing training and development resources to support those with an information support element in their role. In addition NHS Education for Scotland have also published the results of research exploring need of users in relation to information, advice and support. The results make interesting reading, including the fact that two thirds of the adult population in Scotland reported not using the Internet for health or social care information.
Patient Information Conference Scotland

The Patient Information Conference: 'Getting Better Together' was held in Glasgow on the 21st April 2009. On the day, Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, introduced the plans for the new National Health Information and Support Service in Scotland. The service will be developed over the coming months with an expected media launch planned for Autumn this year.

Nicola Sturgeon, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing will be launching the National Health Information and Support Service in Scotland at a patient information event in April. The new national information service will allow staff, patients, carers and the public to discuss and share practice on the development and provision of information.
