BMA Patient Information Awards 2010 - call for entries

The BMA are now able to accept entries for the 2010 Awards and hope that PiF members who have produced or updated patient resources in 2009 will want to submit their entries. There are nine special awards as well as the overall award for Patient Information Resource of the Year. The closing date for entries is Friday 26th February 2010.
Bupa Foundation award winner

This years Bupa Foundation Communication award winner was announced last week at an awards ceremony in London. Saving Londoners' Lives, a London-wide partnership programme teaching children as young as five life saving skills won the 2009 award, plus prize money of £15,000. The communication award is run in association with PiF.
NHS Evidence awards first accrediations

NHS Evidence has announced the first organisations to be accredited under its new scheme for guideline developers. The scheme aims to make reliable sources of guidance easily recognisable to doctors who are trying to decide which guidelines to use in clinical practice.

NHS Lanarkshire commissioned research which explored the effectiveness of the information provision and distribution provided to parents and carers of 0-5 year olds in Lanarkshire. The report concludes that the variation in the opinions and experiences of parents emphasizes the challenge faced by health professionals in providing information which is suitably tailored to all parents' needs.

NHS Evidence, a web portal provided by NICE, was launched with the principal aim of providing access to a comprehensive evidence base for everyone in health and social care who makes decisions about treatments or the use of resources. They are looking for health and social care professionals who use NHS Evidence in the course of their everyday work, to review current online sources and suggest new ones.
