Tuesday 12 October 2010, 12.30pm to 4.30pm
St Bartholomew's Hospital, London
Have you ever wondered...
- Why people don’t read or understand health information?
- Why patients miss appointments?
- Why they don’t take their medication?
- Why they don’t eat 5 a day?
- Don’t understand what you say to them?
Answer: Over 10 million adults in the UK have problems with basic language, literacy and numeracy which can contribute to all of the above. Increasingly, the link between low basic skills, health literacy and health outcomes is being recognised. To help members get to grips with health literacy and understand the impact it may have on consumer health information, PiF has joined forces with ContinYou to offer a half day workshop. The aim of the workshop is to deepen your understanding of basic skills (language, literacy and numeracy) and health literacy and to give you:
- A greater awareness of Basic Skills and Health Literacy and how that impacts on people’s life and understanding of their health
- Greater understanding of ways in which information and advice can be provided for people with Basic Skills and Health Literacy needs
- Deeper insights around how to modify information for people with Basic Skills and Health Literacy needs.
The workshop is for a maximum of 25 participants, so you are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.
The cost is £60 + vat per person (£70.50 total cost). A sandwich lunch and refreshments will be provided.
The workshop will be delivered by Janet Solla, National Skilled for Health Programme Manager at ContinYou.
