Design in consumer health information
Wednesday 20 June 2012, 9.30am – 16.30pm
The Queens Hotel, City Square, Leeds, LS1 1PJ
This one day Patient Information Forum event explores the role of good graphic design in producing high quality health information for patients and the public. The influence of graphic design on health information, regardless of the medium, is as important as the role of the content in producing something accessible, usable and meaningful. It is a key element in conveying the messages you want to send, to the audiences you want to receive them.
Good design can help your service users to understand, identify with and use the information you produce. It can inspire trust and confidence. Graphic design can help to build your brand - presenting your organisation in the way it wants to be seen and encouraging people to access or pick up your information. Good design invites people in and helps them to take part in a journey towards understanding – on the way building their confidence, reassuring them and helping them to make decisions about treatment and care. In essence effective graphic design is a foundation of great health information.
During the morning sessions you will hear from a number of speakers, all of them experts in their field, who will be discussing some of the foundations of effective design and how to apply them in practice to your publications and web resources. The afternoon sessions focus on specific audiences and how to use design to maximise your message and the impact of your information. In between there will be plenty of time for discussion and questions and to network with your peers.
