The
DISCERN© tools are questionnaires for appraising health information
available to the public. DISCERN Genetics is for use with information on genetic screening and testing. The tools have been developed at the University
of Oxford and are used internationally to:
- Help information users and providers to assess information quality and to select appropriate information
- Improve the quality of information by setting standards and providing a reference point for the authors and producers of health information
- Raise awareness of health information quality issues and promote informed choice and shared decision-making skills amongst health professionals and the public
This workshop is designed for anyone interested in health information quality and learning to apply DISCERN. During the workshop you will:
- Learn about the reasons and methods underlying the development of DISCERN
- Use DISCERN to appraise patient information and to discuss quality issues in a group setting
- Explore how DISCERN can help you, your family, clients or service users make informed choices about healthcare
- Look at other useful resources for selecting and producing health information
Workshops are open to anyone who uses or produces health information including patients, carers and their representatives. Fees vary according to participant group:
- Private sector participant = £70 per workshop
- Public & Statutory Sector participant = £45 per workshop
- A limited number of discounted places are available for members of the
public including patients, carers and volunteer workers. Please contact
