ABPI Conference 2010 and joint working award

With the help of some noteworthy NHS and Industry speakers and a number of panel discussions, the Association of British Pharaceutical Industry (ABPI) conference will seek to explore ways the industry can collaborate with the NHS and support them in delivering greater improvements in healthcare for patients. The theme of the conference is “working together to make a difference” The confernece will follow the ABPI Value, innovation, trust and access themes and identify how the industry can support and work alongside the NHS QIPP agenda.
The confernece will explore how industry and NHS can support each other on collaboration through development of new medicines, improving the assessment stage, maximizing the opportunity for access for patients to medicines and finally on ensuring there is good uptake of these medicines by clinicians in the UK.
The agenda includes some outstanding speakers including:
- Mike Farrar, Chief Executive NHS North West
- Sir Neil McKay, Chief Executive NHS East of England
- Sir Mike Richards, National Clinical Director, Cancer
- Professor Roger Boyle, National Clinical Director, CHD
- Professor Steve Smith, Imperial College, London
- Professor Ken Patterson, Chairman of the SMC
- Mike Dixon, Chairman of the NHS Alliance

ABPI Conference and Dinner: Introducing the Joint Working Award
The ABPI has also announced the launch of the Joint Working Award 2010. The purpose of this award is to recognise excellence in collaborative and partnership working between industry and the NHS, and to promote joint working collaborations. The criteria for entry is as follows:
- The work must demonstrate a measurable outcome for patients
- There must be a clear collaboration between industry and the NHS
- Positive NHS customer involvement/ feedback/endorsement is required
- It must show benefits to both the NHS and its pharmaceutical partners
All entrants, will be asked to produce a 2 page summary document highlighting the key achievements from the project, by Friday 12th March 2010. A judging panel will then review the entrants, narrowing them down to 3-5 finalists. The winner will be notified and announced at the ABPI dinner on Tuesday 27th April 2010.
