Sarah Smith

Sarah Smith has worked in consumer health information for 14 years, both in the voluntary sector and as a freelance consultant. Sarah is Operations Director at the Patient Information Forum, managing and developing member services and benefits, undertaking much of the day to day management of the organisation and, along with other Directors, contributing to the strategic development of PiF. Sarah is also an independent consultant specialising in consumer health information and working with clients to provide and develop high quality information. She has experience designing and developing information services for the public and is a skilled health writer.
Sarah was Information Services Manager at the National Eczema Society and Head of Information and Support at the Blood Pressure Association, staffing and running a telephone information service, and writing and developing publications and websites. Prior to that Sarah was a registered nurse with seven years experience in medicine, orthopaedics and gynaecology.
At the Blood Pressure Association Sarah set up the charity's information services from scratch, developing policy, piloting services, evaluating them and developing a range of publications. She has experience with user groups, focus groups and involving the public in developing services and information. She has produced two booklets commended in the BMA Patient Information Awards and an interactive lifestyle quiz that she developed was highly commended in the Third Sector Charity Awards.
Sarah is a patient representative on the advisory groups evaluating the Heart MOT project, Nurse and Pharmacist Independent Prescribing and the Community Pharmacy Contract (Southampton University and Keele University). She is also a reviewer for the BMA Patient Information Awards.
