PiF Profile

Leona O'Reilly

I’ve been working with Nutrition and Diet Resources UK (NDR-UK) since 2004; a practitioner-led charitable company specialising in high quality patient nutrition and diet resources.

NDR-UK is a very forward thinking Initiative, in that very early on it recognized the need for quality patient-informed resources and the avoidance of the duplication of effort. What originally started out as a Scottish only project has been transformed into a UK wide organisation.

My background is in human nutrition research and I worked at the Rowett Research Institute as the Director’s Research Assistant where I was involved in developing educational material for children and planning public engagement events. This is where my interest in communicating information to the public evolved.

Over the years I have learned the importance and value of well-written, evidence-based, patient-involved information. It is therefore of no great surprise that I have a been a member of PiF since its inception. As a provider of patient information leaflets, I have also gained valuable experience in developing and maintaining frameworks required to produce quality information. This together with experience of how the NHS and other organisations procure patient information has given me an understanding of patient information scene. Other areas of interest include developing research programs to examine the effectiveness of health information on end-users behaviours and quality of life.

I am delighted to take on the position of Scottish Coordinator and my colleague Kirsty Rice will also be supporting this position, however all enquiries should be directed to me in the first instance.

I look forward to sharing resources and discussing health information issues with you all!.
