PiF Fifth Annual Conference: Moving beyond leaflets
11 March 2010, Aston Villa Football Club, Birmingham B6.

The last decade has seen some far reaching changes in the way information is developed, produced and shared. There was a time when information was all about the leaflet and access to these was through ‘gatekeepers’ like GPs and nurses. All that is changing. Although there is still a need for the paper based written word, far reaching changes in technology are now fundamentally changing the way people access and use information. Information producers are changing too - user-led, audience specific, multi-format resources are now the norm for many.

During the conference delegates were asked to use VOXUR, a film studio in a box, to capture their views and experience of working in consumer health information. The short film below is an edited version of contributions, exploring the challenges currently facing information producers, patients and the public around health information. Delegates also put forward some possible solutions and suggest ways in which PiF might make a difference.

We're very grateful to 55 Degrees who generously donated VOXUR for the day, as well as their time and expertise.

This fifth annual PiF conference looked at that changes taking place in consumer health information and helped delegates to:

  • Learn about current national policy on consumer health information and plans for the future
  • Examine the Information Standard and have your questions answered
  • Get an update on key projects like Information Prescriptions
  • Explore new ways of producing and disseminating information, like social marketing and information centres
  • Get practical tips on using technologies like SMS and online information
