Producing Effective Information for Patients: The Key Issues
PiF Third annual conference
11 March 2008
Manchester Conference Centre, Manchester
This years conference focused on the increasingly diverse issues around producing high quality patient information. The aim was to cover a broad spectrum of patient information issues in the presentations, and to discuss practical examples of innovative and high quality practice.in the workshop sessions. The 170 delegates made it a lively conference, with time for panel discussions, networking and information sharing.
Patients were at the centre of the days proceedings, with the keynote opening address from Chonette Taylor, who talked about her journey to find the right information for her needs, from Avril Surridge who gave a patient perspective of the Diabetes UK year of care project and from Bee Haries who showed us how she accesses her own medical records. Other presentations covered good practice and policy in patient information subjects as diverse as running a helpline, social marketing and NHS Choices.
The afternoon masterclasses were all about sharing insights into different aspects of producing information. These ranged from setting up a readers panel to discussing health literacy and learning how to achieve clarity in written information.
