PiF Events - Introduction

PiF holds a number of events each year for the benefit of its members, and for those interested in patient information. Each event is developed with PiF member needs in mind, responding to new innovations in health information and helping people who work in the field to keep up to date and to develop their skills. PiF members benefit from a reduced rate delegate fee for all events.

NHS Information Strategy workshop

Monday 1 November 2010,  10am - 3.45pm
Rotherham Hospital of The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust

The foundation for any consumer health information service is an effective, comprehensive and robust information strategy. However, feedback from members tells us that very few of you have a complete strategy for your organisation, that there are areas that are proving challenging and that you would like to learn from the work that others are doing. This event brings PiF NHS members together and, by providing room for networking and discussion and an opportunity to share experiences and documents, creates a ‘collective wisdom’ that will create a framework for developing an information strategy. The workshop is  for PiF members only and is free to attend.

Health Literacy and health information workshop

Tuesday 12 October 2010, 12.30pm to 4.30pm
St Bartholomew's Hospital, London

Over 10 million adults in the UK have problems with basic language, literacy and numeracy which can contribute to all of the above. Increasingly, the link between low basic skills, health literacy and health outcomes is being recognised. To help members get to grips with health literacy and understand the impact it may have on consumer health information, PiF has joined forces with ContinYou to offer a half day workshop for PiF members only.

Shared decision making dinner

Wednesday 15 September 2010 - London

Shared decision making is at the heart of improving quality. It transforms the relationship between people who use services and those who provide them. In his first speech as Secretary of State for Health, Andrew Lansley said: ‘... patients must be at the heart of everything we do, not just as beneficiaries of care, but as participants in shared decision-making. As patients, there should be no decision about us, without us.’

But are we really comfortable with the implications of people having more control over decisions about their healthcare and treatment? And what needs to change in service incentives, professional practice and patient responsibility to shift to shared decision making from an aspiration to ‘the way we do things’?

This invitation only dinner provides key opinion leaders and influencers with an opportunity to meet, share insights and to explore ways to work together to improve patient experience (and efficiency) through better communication and shared decision making. Mr Simon Burns, Minister of State for Health, will be a guest at the dinner.
